Anyone know any good summer camp activities? I am 15, and a "Playground Aide" for 5-12 year olds this summer. We have about 6 sites, with 60 kids each. At my site, we have a staff meeting tomorrow for activity planning. I started today, and it went horrible, so we want more structure. Let me remind you, this is GOVERNMENT FUNDED. The fee for the camp is $20 for 6 weeks, M-F, 9-3. We have NO BUDGET. We have some sports equipment and basic art supplies. Anyone have any ideas for things we could do in the following categories. I've never been a parent, and have no idea what enterntains kids. Categories- -Performing Arts -Music -Sports and Games - Art Thanks! Ideas for activities at a summer camp? I am activities coordinator for a science summer camp at a university for two weeks. The kids are around 16 years old..during the day they will be learning about health and science stuff and visiting science facilities around town, then at night we can basically do anthing on campus. So far I have icebreakers, sand volleyball, newspaper houses (teambuilding activity), swimming at the natatorium, movie night, tye-dye lab coats, photo scavenger hunt, human knot (teambuilding)... So my parents won't send me to summer camps/schools etc., so I have to figure SOMETHING out! okay...so I was thinking i could go to my local library, get some good books to read (my mom won't even go THERE, but I will convince her), and maybe I could research on a subject i really like, and maybe write a report on it (just for fun...no grades after all). Me and my best friend at camp have been getting into the show Eureka lately, she and I live far away from eachother, but we still talk a ton and I told her about Eureka and we've both seen the first season. SAHM and sending my daughter to summer camp? Well, I'm sort of a stay at home. I work for an attorney at home and go into the office about 1 or 2 mornings a week. Well Jill went into a ramble, saying that moms who stay home and send their kids to camp have nothing better to do with their money and they just don't want to be bothered with their kids all summer and want someone else to entertain them. I was speechless; considering I signed my daughter up for camp. It's not a sleep away camp - it's a 6 week day (mon - fri) camp, and they have activities planned for everyday - movies, waterparks, pools, etc. And my daughter (she's 7) begged me to sign her up - alot of her friends are going also and she is so excited to go. I should also say that I have a 3 year boy at home also. (and no, he's not going to camp :) Your thoughts? Thank you. The camp is actually offered through the City and the site happens to be at her elementary school, so I do feel very safe about her going. And her teacher now is actually one of the counselors.

Summer Camp Problem? I'm going to a summer camp where I will be doing water activities every day. When I get my period, how should I tell the male coach. There are no other female coaches there. Summer camp issues for my 6 year old son? My son, who just turned 6 last week, just finished Kindergarten and is attending summer camp. He was one of the youngest in his class at school and is now the youngest in his camp, which the director keeps raising issues about. My concern is 1) It's summer camp, not school; it's supposed to be fun, not stressful. 2) He is socially immature compared to the other kids which apparently is a concern for the camp director. She says he doesn't have much interest in participating in sport activities. I told her he is one who would much rather sit down and write, draw or color than play. He's very intellegent and this is how he prefers to spend most of his time. I don't think that means he's immature, but maybe I'm wrong. Does anybody else struggle with similar issues?

Residential Summer Camp for a 7 year old? Quite a while back I asked for opinions/help on what to send in my daughter's camp care package and what to send with her to camp. summer camp? I went to a camp for several years as a kid, and really learned a lot there. Probbaly the best summers of my life. I always wanted to see if i could put a reunion of sorts together at it. Get as many friends as i can of old campers from those days. But most i dont even remember their names or where they live now. Recommend any Summer Camp management software? We currently run off of a customized MS Access database which I developed. It takes an Excel spreadsheet of camper names, sex and DoBs from our database. We have add-on activities as well, which our accounting program (IBM AS400) exports in a funky manner so that data is entered manually. The database then runs simple reports with camp store money, check-in/out lists, add-on activity rosters, etc. We don't have the time to develop anything more complicated, or program an interface to let anyone use the database. So we are looking for good camp software which does this functionality, and possibly retreat center bookings if possible. We have heard of CampBrain and EZCamp, but not sure what else is there or any reviews of those two.
