Fun activities for a youth cheerleading camp...?
I run a youth cheerleading camp (ages running from 5-14, and about 100 girls) and at the end of everyday the student coaches and myself lead fun activities. The problem is that I have done the same every year and wonder if anyone has any other suggestions that I could do. Remember it has to be appropriate and easy enough for 5 year olds, but not so basic that it bores the 14 year olds. This is something where all the girls make a circle in the last 10 minutes and get to have fun together because they are split up during the entire camp.

- you should google it!!!
- Put them in gruops and have them come up with their own cheer or dance and have them teach it to the other girls.
- I think the game where you try to make eachother laugh would be good, and it might be good practice considering they're cheerleaders and have to keep crowds peppy! Also... a game where they have to imitate what somone else is doing would be good....like a cheer move...then they have to do do the first move they imitated and then another move that someone else comes up with...and so on and so forth until they mess up. Kinda like simon says, but where you have to remember and repeat everyone move you've already done and in order. Like the old lady who swallowed a fly...or the twelved days of christmas...only with dance moves! That would also be good practice. You can also probably find some fun games on the web.
- You should totally like research it on google for cheerleading activities that are like good for all ages. Or better yet, just break the girls into like two groups and have the younger girls do one thing while the older girls work on something else.
- I also help run a youth cheer/dance program. And one of the activities was a mini competition among the girls. Depending on the number of girls at camp I split them up in various age groups to keep the playing field level. And I let them create their own routine and cheer. It was a 3 day camp and they spent 1/2 hr at the end of each day to put something together. At the last day they performed for everyone we had program directors as judges and the top squad received a trophy and everyone got medals. We also did a most spirited award and handed out spirit sticks to the cheerleader with the most spirit voted on by her peers. (1 per group). We also raffled off spirit gifts.....A sack race is always fun too!
