  1. keep on telling them stories and have them on their toes all the time let them feel excited and fun and not try to make it boring as long as stories are coming children will remain active
  2. Check out the book "Children the Challenge" by Dr. Rudolf Dreikurs. It's chock full of fantastic information about getting children and yourself aligned in a cooperative fashion. It has been a lifesaver for me.
  3. offer rewards for good and punishment for bad
  4. Make sure you prepare them for what is to come at camp before they go. Start them in the registration process to open up any questions. Take about camp frequently and what is expected up until the day of camp. Make sure to pack post cards so they can tell you what great activities they are doing and how much fun they are having. This will encourage them to participate so that they have something fun to write about. Above remind them to have fun and enjoy their time.
  5. do your research with the child on the camp. See if you can find pictures of past summers or even meet a child who will also be attending the camp. Most of all, do not put negitive thoughts in their head. Don't even mention "homesick" or "scared" or anything like that. Just concentrate on what fun they will have. When you get calls or letters, make sure all of your responses are positive and upbeat.
