  1. Try state parks - they have all kinds of activities. Bring bicycles. I love Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring, Florida. Lots to do, and you can make campfires.
  2. Bring protection. You've seen all the movies.Check your vehicle for safe tires.Bring a way of communication if you can't get a cell signal CB Radio) Bring along an extra battery and extra set of keys. Those get lost a lot.It depends on who all will be there as to what Kind of activities will go on but just BE SAFE and know the people you go with...Things usually have a way of working themselves out.Just don't go off into the deep wilderness or anyplace that is dangerously out of the way.Let people know when you are leaving and when you are coming back.Try a safe first trip.A state park or a friend who maybe owns some land or rent a cabin cottage..depends on tents or not. It's just a big important thing to be ready and alert at all time,..even for bad animals.
  3. Find a campground that has a lake for swimming and fishing. Even if you don't actually fish, it's fun to take a row boat out on the lake. Wear water proof sunblock. Take extra money because row boats are usually rented by the hour. Find a camp site that has 2 trees closer together so you can rope up a clothes line for drying bathing suits and towels. Also, take extra money for ice and firewood. A lot of places won't let you use the trees in the woods for firewood, even if they're on the ground dead. You have to bring your own or buy some there. Store all food in your car trunk over night to avoid animals getting into things. A lot of campgrounds have rangers on duty that do nature walks. These are a lot of fun and the rangers will answer all kinds of questions about nature. Try to go camping on Monday-Thurs. Fri, Sat, & Sunday are always packed with campers. Also, avoid holidays. Some campgrounds may charge more on weekends or around holidays. If you forget something, there's usually a grocery store somewhere near by. Ask when you check in. Hope this helps!
  4. Well, you don't say where you are but I'm assuming it's not in the frozen north.... A lot of the activities around camping are doing everyday tasks in a much different way than you normally do them. You don't need a lot of gear and many newbies often bring too much. Prepare for sleeping, of course, warmth, keeping dry, preparing meals, bodily functions and long walks. Don't make eating too complicated. Cereal or oatmeal, coffee, sandwhiches, burgers, hot dogs or sausages, chili, soups, etc. One of the main joys of camping is reconnecting with our primal relationship with nature. Walk through a forest, a stream, sit by a river, study birds and wildlife....there's not a lot that you need except "disconnecting" from our chaotic, electronic world. Don't bring a radio or boom box or tv.....you will be a little 'bored' at first but open your eyes and your mind to the wonders around you. The rewards are significant.
  5. It all depends on where you go camping, you will make your own fun regardless, just remember the safety and your environment, If there are bears, hang your food from a tree away from your camp site,"NO FOOD IN TENTS", do not go if the girls are on their PERIOD,bears can smell blood.go and buy a book on camping and safety precautions, how to survive, it is full of little things that you will always use, I am a experienced camper and still carry a book with me, have fun be safe..Try winter camping it is also fun.
  6. whatever you bring.........bring toilet paper! you will thank me later. just be sure you are familiar with the area you are going to and be sure you know how to return to your starting point! take a GPS or a map . bring fresh water and plenty of easy-to-prepare foods, chips and sandwhiches are a good choice. make sure you have a good flashlight and a lanturn for the camp. bring paper plates and plastic forks and paper towels . think of everything before you go. also take a machete or ax for firewood, if you have a propane soldering torch, take it, they are the best firestarters ever! a good tent, bug repellent, and baby wipes to clean up alittle. have fun and try to take time to clean up after your selves when you are leaving, please dont litter the woods, if you take it there, bring it back, ok? dont forget your cell phone and charger!
  7. Things you need. Coleman lantern, flashlights sleeping bags warm clothes, tent and for comfort air mattresses, something to cook on,matches, cooking utensils, water containers and fresh water if your not gong to a public campground, bug spray on the assumption your in a area that's warm, clean dry clothes in case the weather gets wet. There can be alot more but that will get you started and you work with it out with experience
