Camping Out Ideas

Can you suggest some healthy food ideas for camping?

Normally DH and I will just have mets off of the grill, but I am trying to tone up so I don't want to eat a lot of junk. Anyone have any ideas / recipes for things to make while camping? We have a grill I can use, but we only have the fire lit after dark so I cannot cook on it.

  1. Take some granola bars and beef jerky, if you get a chance to cook go fishing and cook up some good healthy food just be carefully with the wild creatures out their.
  2. We go camping all the time, I sometimes take the boneless skinless chicken breast and make those on the grill, just don't forget to use a non-sticking srpay. There are non-fat hot dogs out there....I usually take fruit with me and the little fruit cups from dole.
  3. Take some fruit and some celery. I know it may sound kind of plain,, but take a jar of peanut butter and it makes all the difference and granola bars are good to! Take some Jello and water and you'll be all set.
  4. This would be a healthy side dish that you could make before you leave if you wanted to. FISH CAMP SLAW 3 lbs. cabbage 2 green peppers 1 med. onion, grated 3 (1 lb.) cans tomatoes 1 tbsp. salt 1 tsp. black pepper 1 c. yellow vinegar 1 2/3 c. water 2 c. sugar Chop and mix together cabbage, green pepper, onion, tomatoes, salt and black pepper. Combine vinegar, water and sugar in saucepan and heat to a boil. Cool and pour over cabbage mixture. Let set 24 hours in refrigerator.
  5. Fruits, raw vegetables and hummus for dipping. Light crackers. Dried fruits and nuts. Fish or chicken for grilling; don't forget to take some seasonings. Cereal bars.
  6. BAKED CAMPING FISH 4 or 5 slices of onion, about 1/8 inch Put onions on bottom of large sheet of aluminum foil. Then 1 layer of fish fillet. Next salt and lemon juice. Already cooked rice on next layer. A few pats of butter on top. Repeat layers. Seal aluminum foil and put on grill. Cook until fish is tender. BETHLEHEM CAMP SQUASH CASSEROLE 2 cans squash, drained 2 eggs, beaten 1 stack crackers, crushed 1 sm. onion, chopped 1 tsp. pepper Salt to taste 1/2 lb. Velveeta cheese, grated Combine all ingredients and pour into greased casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes.
  7. you can make veggie foil packs....use your imagination...mix onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage....etc etc mix the veggie combo you want and then add a light vinaigrette then close foil and cook to desired done-ness.....you can also use fruit combos and do the same thing....only add a sweet light mixture....enjoy....
