- I went to a diffrent camp every week of every summer growing up... most people say that they love camp, but when you go that much you turn your back on it. I am so releived that i didnt have to go to camp anymore, but one of my favorite camps was when i got a group of friends together and each parent took one day out of the week off work and hosted some kind of activity. We got to go swimming, rock climbing, horse back riding, we made our own purses and pottery, and we went to a musical at the local dinner theater. It was so much fun because we were surrounded by the people that we loved to be with, and it was also cheaper then going to a real summer camp (some of the ones i went to costed 500$ a WEEK) You can do this anywhere too, no matter where you live. Also, many camps focus on one type of activity, like art or sports, but with this we got to do a veriety, and didnt get burnt out on painting all in one week. This "Freinds Camp" as we called, also allowed parents to hang out with their kids for one more day out of the week then usual. Call a few of your kids friends (or their parents) and see if you cant get them to do this with you. It is super easy to organize because each parent just does their own thing. 5 families is ideal because then each parent or couple only has to take one day off from their work.
