ideas for a summer camp?
I am running a summer camp this year and I need it to be the coolest camp ever. We do have a modest budget and are located on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia Canada. The children are ages 6-12. Anyone with any ideas for games, food, fieldtrips, or activities please respond. My group has approx. 20 children

- heads up 7-up AMERICAN GAME SORRY!
- Let them make their own pizzas one night.
- what about a worldwide trip to foreign countries that will earn you some big canadian bucks? or you could go for old hide-and-seek.
- The camp i went to in California was really cool a few summers ago. We stayed there for a while doing everything from archery and crafts to canoeing. It sounds really gay, but all the horses and dodgeball made life so simple for a short amount of time. I think that the neatest thing, though, was when there was a dance held on the last day. It made it a great way to say goodbye to everyone durring a fun time. That way, i still remember everything as it was at the funnest part!! :) I'm not so sure what kind of camp your doing... but if its just you to supervise try and have them do some cooking, some physical games, and a few art projects. Save the best for last so that it might have the same effect. Good Luck!

- I used to be in a camp when I was younger and it was the best. You can give the kids certain supplies(like straws, T-P rolls, tape, etc.) and put them in groups to build a SAFETY for an egg. Then all of the groups will put one device together with the egg in it. Then you climb a ladder and drop their device. You then open it up to see if the egg broke. Which ever groups egg does not break wins. OR you can have a talent night that's always fun for all ages.--- Food always go with a classic hot dog ( it never fails)--------Field trips-A nature walk is always fun. Hope I could help.
- As a Camp Director I know what is like to have no money. Here are some ideas that we used last summer. Boat Races: Give each cabin all the cardboard they want and ONE roll of duct tape and have them make a boat, then race them. Sounds easy but this was one of the best program we had last summer. Skits SKITS and more SKITS. E mail me of you would like me to send you hundreds of great skits. You can purchase or get a local company to donate handheld GPS's. You can purchase them for under $100.00 now. You can haveone cabin a day go on a real treasure hunt. With the GPS you can actually bury items in a box for them to find. last year I even buried their cooler with their lunch in it. THEY LOVED IT! Do a camera scaninger hunt. Make a list of places around camp they need the pictures taken at. If you look you can find the disposal camers cheap. When you get the pics back see how many of them found the correct location. Hope this helps and if you need any more let me know. campbirchock@yahoo.com
- Hiking and visiting nature is fun. Teach them the different types of trees and let them go in groups on a scavenger hunt for the leaves from the different type of trees that you have taught them. You could give them a list with a picture, and in this format they will learn the different trees. Swimming is fun. You can let them dive in about six to eight feet of water for soft drink cans and other items. For the younger ones you can let them walk in about three to four feet of water to find them. Badminton is fun as are horse shoes and shuffle board. You can also have an obstacle course, not to difficult, and award prizes. Cooking out is also fun, roasting marsh mellows and hot dogs. You want to make sure that you separate the kids by age, size and skills, as you want them all to win at something. These are just a few suggestions, but I am sure you can build from them. Have a great time.
