What are some good camping meal ideas?

I'm taking my 2 young kids campings for 2 nights. Preferrably healthy, easy, and requiring little or no "equipment". I already figured out fruit, smores, PB&J and hot dogs on a stick.

  1. Go to your local camping store and get a bunch of "space" foods. The kids will get a kick out of it and you'll have little to do and even less of a mess to clean up.
  2. For 2 nights, that sounds like plenty to me. Maybe some beanie weenies, and by fruit if you mean melons, definitely plenty.
  3. We always make baked potatoes. All you have to do is rub salt around the outside of them, wrap them in a couple layers of tinfoil, and throw them in the campfire (make sure you can get them out again - and use tongs or a stick!). They should be done after 30 to 45 minutes. Also, instead of putting ice in the coolers, freeze bottled water. It keeps cartons and food from getting soaked, you don't have a cooler full of water to dump at the end, and you have bottled water to drink after it melts!
  4. Go on about.com and key in foil packets. You should have a few ideas there, as well as typing in camp meals. Also you can go MacScouter.com. They have menu plans for outdoor cooking.

  6. Take hamburger, potatoes, and carrots in foil with a few drops of water. Cook over fire untill done. I put onion in mine. You can make them ahead of time.
  7. Make stuff ahead of time and bring it in the cooler. Just remember to get ice often. You can bring milk for cereal, already made tuna or chicken salad, potato and pasta salads and precooked & chilled breaded or grilled chicken for salad toppers or sandwiches. If you don't want to bring a cooler then you can still do chicken or tuna salad just bring small unopened containers of mayo so you don't need to keep it cold and you can discard what you don't use. Also fresh veggies and fruits don't need refridgeration.
  8. You can't beat Mountain Pies. Pizza mountain pies are usually a hit, especially with the kids. Ingredients Needed for all Mountain Pies: Bread Butter Non-Stick Spray Pizza: Pizza Sauce (About 2 tbsp. per pie) Mozzarella Cheese - shredded Any 'Topping' (pepperoni, olives, whatever) Grilled Cheese: 1 slice of cheese (more than 1 you will burn yourself with melted cheese) <===sounds like the voice of experience! Dessert: Apple Pie Filling Cinnamon Brown Sugar Cherry Pie Filling Banana Boat Mountan Pies: Sliced banana (one layer on bread) 4 tiny Hershey chocolate bar pieces (distributed in the center) 2 large marshmellows (9 mini-marshmellows)
  9. put a bunch of canned vegies some meat some like frozen hashbrowns into a tin foil wrap it up toss it into the fire check it everynow and again, real tasty.
