present idea for child?
Hi all, I am a final year (yr 12) high-school student from Australia. Every year the Sony foundation puts on a camp for kids that are developmentally delayed in some way downs syndrome etc. many camps are held throughout Australia and every year high-schools across the country hold these camps for the kids. Students from these schools or sister/brother schools join in. I happen to be one of the lucky few that were chosen to undertake this special journey. Part of the packing list we have is to give a small gift to our child. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what to buy for our child as I really am at a loss of what to buy. i think they may be between 5-15??? unsure of exact ages...sorry Any help is much appreciated, this present will definitely be for a girl as well as girls are companioned with girls and boys are likewise. Thanks in advance Katie

- You could get a nice writing book and pens
- A stuffed animal A photo frame-you can put a picture of the two of you in it A necklace Perhaps a puzzle with large, thick pieces-maybe the kind with wooden pegs? These are just a few ideas. What a wonderful program! I hope you have a lot of fun and make a lot of memories.
- all my favorite gifts... the ones i kept forever were the ones that were hand made. bracelets. pillows. drawings. the rest of it is just stuff. outside of that probably some nice silly oversized shirt.
- Children with learning dificulties often are interested in the same things as you or I but obviously have diferent levels of understanding or ability. Why not a book mainly with pictures say beautiful pictures rom around the world.
- I work in a facility that cares for MRDD adults. Many of them enjoy simple puzzles, picture books with things like animals in them, stuffed animals, educational toys (ABC's, 123's, colors, shapes) simple games like Candy Land, sensory items (anything that may have a different texture, lights up, sounds, smells, etc), videos/movies, crayons and craft supplies, music, radios.. most of them like country, oldies, and kiddie music best. Hope that helps!
- That's really sweet of you. I suggest a necklace. She'll like that regardless of her age. We have special needs students at my school and there is one girl who often sits with us. It was her birthday so I bought her a necklace and she cried, she was so happy. It was really sweet. Good luck with your HSC. (I live in New Zealand)
- I second jewelry. Something pretty, not too fragile, and without a complicated fastening. A necklace would be good because it's unlikely to fall off compared to a bracelet.
- a colorful pillow picture frame pens a really good book something thoughtful
