  1. i'm attending a camp this summer and we're going to play a game where the barn gets a real vetrinarian to come and show riders the parts of the horse. there will be teams. a person tells all of the teams which part of the horse they have to look for. each team will race over to the other side (one person at a time) where there is a horse at the other end. they have to point it out to the person(s) in charge and they will tell them if it is right or not. the person will then tell the player which other part that the other person on the team has to look for, and they race back, tell the other player which part they have to find and it repeats. the team that gets the most points by the end wins :) email me if this isnt clear lol
  2. Howdy, (lol) i work on a farm and we have summer camps. We usually do a bunch of stuff, so here are some ideas. english/western riding bareback take care of the horses like feed and water teach them about different types of horses show them different riding techniques how to properly tack up a horse bathing/grooming cleaning tack around the world(s) trail rides the games that we allow them to play are limited, especially on horseback. we try to incorporate as much learning into the camp, so they become more expierienced on things that are usefull, like how to reassemble a bridle and tack up a horse. (things that you normally wouldnt get during a regular lesson) Its great that your doing a horse camp, i hope that some of these ideas helped you!
  3. Some ideas that I'll just throw out there-- -See who can label the most parts of a horse or saddle -A scavenger hunt with riddles to figure out (One was name all the colors of the horses on the farm (list provided) another was to name the letters of a dressage arena, find a riddle in a willow tree and answer the question..) -We had a parelli and lunge/balance lesson -We had a horse spa to see who could make their horse look best. Braiding tails, washing them, hoof polish, etc. -Trail rides -We had a movie night one day and watched some horse movies Enjoy and feel free to email for more ideas!
  4. at the end of the camp have a small show!
  5. Some games on horseback: -Around the world (have people compete to see who can get around the fastest without losing balance) -Red light, Green light (self-explanatory, walk or trot) -Pony in the barn (like musical chairs...line up a bunch of trot poles in the center of the ring. the spaces between poles are "stalls" with one less space than horses. when the instrucor says "pony in the barn," everyone has to try and get into a "stall." Do this at a walk, though, it's safest. It helps A LOT with steering and stopping. Teaching the kids how to groom and tack up is also a great idea.
  6. I think it depends on what age groups your having. For the littler kids i would bring out a horse and maybe make some stickers with the horses body parts on them.. teach the kids the body parts and explain how their used/work/etc then hand them out to the kids and let them go and stick them on a horse. At my horse camp we brought out the Shetland pony, he loved it :P You could also teach them about all the brushes, saddle, basically all the tack. Oh, and you could also teach them how to clean stalls and secretly trick them to clean. ha ha labor the kids :P just kidding you can even do crafts like collages, horse puppets. Just be creative, it really helps (: As far as the older kids go, maybe bring out a few horses, talk about showing, conformation, balance. Bring in some professionals. At ours we got an equine photographer, farrier, vet, and equine massager. Teach them about some horse diseases too, and maybe get them to do some research.
  7. I do horse camps too with Miniature Horses. One fun game that all the kids like is when we would hide small tack items, brushes, even rags, and the kids would go look for them. Just try to remember were you put every thing. LOL
