Chevy HHR or Pontiac Vibe?

I am looking to buy a cheap, sporty wagon so I can load it up with gear/toys for my outdoor pursuits. Any reccomendations? I need fuel economy, fun to drive and a decent storage for camping, biking, skiing, kayaking.

  1. I'd go with the Vibe and get the Stabiltrack option. Looks much better than the HHR and has great fuel economy at around 28-36 mpg...
  2. Mazda 3 5 Door wagon or the Speed 3 depending on your cash flow. Or look into a Subaru. I'm sorry but if Pontiac isn't good enough for Nascar you better look into something else.
  3. the HHR SS like 265 hp turbo can get it panneled who cares bout the 20 mpg
  4. If you are limiting your choices to those 2, the Vibe is better in reliability, owner satisfaction, and fuel efficiency. Through the 2008 model year, the Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix are exactly the same vehicle. Toyota actually makes the engine in the Vibe. The Matrix is a little cheaper (for some reason) and it will hold its value better. Also check out the Mazda 3 hatchback. I think it looks better than the Vibe or the Matrix, and also has great reliability, fuel mileage, and resale. If you have to buy Domestic, also consider the PT Cruiser. It is better than the HHR, but the Vibe is still the best of the domestic hatchbacks in my opinion. If you are willing to sacrifice a little fuel economy, check out the Honda Element SUV. It is the perfect outdoor vehicle and will get you about 24 mpg overall (22 if you get the AWD).
