RECIPES for camping?
So I'm going to this camping thing with my mom's friend. It is a really big thing. He is a famous artist, and he's so cool, but anyway willie nelson, sugarland, Leane Rimes, daughtry, stevie niks, and other famous artists are coming. They always do a buffet where everyone cooks something and brings it to the buffet. I am only 14....but my age does me no justice! lol I am very mature for my age, and I LOVE to cook, I was thinking some sort of stew, or soup maybe? I want to impress everyone. I want it to be great..but something i can cook over a fire. I can bring big pots and things so it will work. I'm not buying a cookbook or anything. Tell me recipes so i can go to the store, and buy what i need.

- i ordered the cookbook from these guys, it is pretty good. i try to make something new every time we go camping and there is a lot of stuff in there we haven't tried before.

- What about maybe a dessert? Not many people may think to make a campfire dessert. Do you have a cast iron dutch oven pot? If not if you live in the US you can get one at probably Walmart for about $30 or there about. This is a dessert that we make when we go camping and it is yummy. DUMP CAKE.....spread 1 CAN CHERRY PIE FILLING (21 oz) and 1 CAN CRUSHED PINEAPPLE ,UNDRAINED (8 oz) into seasoned dutch oven. Mix 1PKG YELLOW CAKE MIX and 1/2 C MELTED BUTTER crumble that on top of pie filling. Take the lid to the dutch oven and invert that on top of pot. Dig a hole in dirt and add hot coals to the hole put your pot into the hole and add more hot coals to the top of the lid this will act as your oven. Let bake until heated through and the top is lightly browned about 1/2 an hour give or take. You can serve this warm or cold. Every body will be thinking you have been out camping and roughing it for years. ENJOY
- Well, if you have a dutch oven, there are tons of possibilities. Starting with French Onion Soup. Doesn't normally sounds like camp fare, but it's easy to cook outside, filling, a big hit, and you don't have to worry about chilling onions or the like. Alton brown has a great recipe. Also, if it is all camp food there will probably be a lack of desserts. You can make what my mom always called dump cake by dumping a large can of cherry pie filling in with a large can of crushed pineapple in a hot dutch oven, mixing well, dumping (sprinkling) a box of instant yellow cake mix over the top, and drizzling one melted stick of butter over the top. Put the lid on the dutch oven, and pile coals up on the lid. Check every 10 minutes or so, and it is finished when the crust is golden and crisp. Really good, really simple, and with camp friendly ingredients. Whatever you choose, make sure the indregients will travel well, and if it is complicated due as much prep at home as you can, such as washing and chopping vegetables, trimming meats, etc. You want to haul as little in as you can and throw away even less.
