Going camping: can anyone recommend any easy 1 or 2 pan recipes please?

  1. umm this one's not really a main course, but i grew up with the recipe. green beans simply grab a couple cans of grean beans and chop up some bacon put them both in a pan (doesnt matter what kind) and cook its really good
  2. Hamburger Tin Foil Packs: hamburger patty covered with onion slices covered with carrot slices covered with potato slices; salt and pepper and toss the entire pack, sealed tight - of course, into the campfire for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. bean & winnies,corn bread.....hambuger helpers,. corn on the cob steak and grilled baked potatoes [put potatoes in foil and lay them on the coals turn every 4-6 minutes till done] stew, meat and veggie stir fry.........

Campfire Chili Ingredients 1 can hot chili red beans 1 can chili seasoned chopped tomatoes 1 can tomato sauce 1 small can tomato paste 1 can tomato juice 2 pound(s) hamburger 1 onion 1 small carrot 1 small potato chili powder tabasco sauce Directions Shred the carrot and the potato. Add chili powder and Tabasco sauce to taste. Brown hamburger, then add the rest of the ingredients. Cook over fire embers for at least 4 to 6 hours with a light boil. Serve and Enjoy! 30 Minute Goulash 3 Tbsp oil and/or butter 2 cloves garlic (or 1/2 teaspoon powdered garlic) 1 large onion 1 pound(s) ground beef 1 26 ounce can of whole tomatoes 1/2 tsp dill seed 1 tsp parsley salt and pepper to taste Directions In 3 tbsp of oil or butter, saute 2 cloves of fresh garlic, peeled and chopped (or later, when browning the meat, add 1/2 to 1 tsp of powdered garlic, depending on your taste. While the garlic is simmering, peel and slice (about 1/4' thick slices) 1 large onion (of any kind). Do not chop. Add it in its whole rings, and turn up the heat all the way. When the onions are soft and beginning to brown, add 1 lb of ground beef, not too lean as fat adds flavor. Mix with the onion and garlic and cook until brown (at this point, if you are really concerned with fat and chlorestorol, drain exceess fat). Add salt and pepper to taste. While the meat is browning, open a 26 oz can of whole tomatoes. When the meat is brown, add the juice from the can and the tomatoes, tearing them into small pieces with your fingers. This creates a juice, rather than a gravy. If the tomatoes come in a thick sauce, add water until it becomes juicelike. This is important, since it will be served over rice. Add 1/2 tsp of dill seed and 1 tsp of dried (or fresh, chopped) parsley. Cover and simmer. Cook 1 cup or your favorite rice. When the rice is done, so is the goulash. Place 1/2 cup of rice on each plate and cover with goulash, making sure to serve with plenty of juice. A salad and brown-and-serve dinner rolls go well with this, too. Cheesy Sausage Skillet Ingredients 1 pound(s) cooked polish or kielbasa, cut into 1/2 inch pieces 1/2 c chopped onion 1 package Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes 1/8 tsp ground red pepper 2 1/3 c water 2/3 c milk 1 Tbsp butter or margarine 2 c frozen or canned mixed vegetables Directions In skillet or electric frying pan, cook sausage and onion until sausage is browned and onion is tender, stirring frequently. Drain. Add potato slices, contents of sauce packet from potatoes. ground red pepper, water, milk and butter, mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in vegatables; simmer an additional 7 to 10 minutes or until potatoes and vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. And of course there is always Hamburger Helper, we always take it when we go camping : )
  5. all in stew put anything in meat veg gravy and cook together works with any meats cook potatoes in second pan or if its a biggish pan put them in as well saves on washing up as well
  6. i am assuming you will be using a portable gas stove? try instant packet noodles- follow packet instruction and jazz it up by adding some chopped cabbage or lettuce to the soup..... another great one is instant mash (get the ones where you only need to add water- dehydrated butter and milk should be in the list of ingredients- and try getting flavoured mash if poss ie- butter flavour, four cheeses)... Drain and heat some canned vegetables in pan in enough water to make up mash (as per instructions) and add instant mash powder and voila! Not quite posh nosh, but you can whizz it upboth recipes in less than 10 mintues

  8. The best advice I can give is to checkout your local outdoor/camping store for books or go to the library for cookbooks about campfire cooking or go to the bookstore. I hope the sites below help....Have fun on your great outdoor adventure!!!
  9. When camping weight and space are (or should be) at the for front of your mind - as should the ease of cooking/washing afterwards. You also need something nourishing as you need all of the energy that you can get. For these reasons dried food is a must (its light!!). Heres a list of foodstuffs that are ideal, some really obvious - some not so. Knorr flavoured rice mixes (chicken & veg, Spanish, chilli, lemon& coriander etc) Bean Feast (dried veggie mince dish, various flavours) Cous cous (you can get all kinds and flavours) Polenta (cornmeal, this is truly wicked as a tiny bit goes for miles when made up with water - you can add pretty much anything savoury but cheese and meats go particularly well in it) Noodles (again go for pre flavoured -then jazz up with your own ideas). Another advantage of dried foods is that they keep without refrigeration too. I know that they may seem, well - basic but if properly prepared they can be fantastic and with the weight, size and not having to keep cold they have it all.
