I am deathly afraid of spiders and they usually live in the picnic tables. I spray that first thing to get them out!! Also, don't bring food into your tents (and keep coolers and garbage far away from where you sleep) and keep your camp site as clean as possible to keep nightly critters away! Have fun!!

  8. I use the camping checklist from camping.about.com as a template and then personalize it with the following: *Camelback.hydration pack for hikes *Wet Wipes or other disposable premoistened cloths *Sarongs (great to lounge around in, wrap your hair up in, cover shoulders, extra shade, many uses!) *small bottle of saline solution....this really helps when your nose is all crusty when you wake up after camping in an arid environment) *cotton swabs *kitchen shears *lip balm *biodegradable soap like Dr Bonner's which can be used for washing clothes, dishes, pets, hair, people *small headlamp (much easier than a flash light as your hands are free to do whatever) *Tecnu (it REALLY helps if you have been exposed to poison ivy, oak, sumac) *Storage tub(s) - I make sure to use at least one large storage tub to pack things in as this makes a great bath tub for children and pets *Tibetan prayer flags....I string these across the outside entry of my tent or in front of the campsite....never had any unwanted visitors (of course I put food and anything with a scent like lotion and toothpaste in the van or car trunk at night)
